Being at the Mercy of God

Absolute Surrender: The Story of Jacob’s/My Life Part 3

Genesis 32:26

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

Introduction:

In Luke 18 we have the parable of the Pharisee and the Publican. In that account we have our Lord Jesus Christ Himself painting a picture for us of a wicked man, and a righteous man. If we are honest with ourselves, the Pharisee’s description of himself in that account, on the surface reads like the description we would give to a righteous man today. He was not an extortioner, unjust, or an adulterer. He was of a better reputation than the corrupt tax collector. He fasted, not once a month, but twice every week. He also gave tithes of all that he possessed. Now wouldn’t the average modern day church love to have this man as a member of their congregation? Read the rest of this entry →

Run For Your Life: A sermon by Pastor Carter Conlon

2 Corinthians 6:17

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,

No one, unless they willfully choose to reject the evidence, can deny that our world today is not as it used to be. Everything seems to be in a state of chaos. This is not negativity, it’s realism. This is the truth. This is not just a matter of another fanatical preacher ringing the doom and gloom bell. It is the reality of the situation. Just look at the news. From failing economies, to global unrest, the world is experiencing some of the most difficult times it has ever faced. Read the rest of this entry →

God’s Providence through Wasted Years

April 25, 2011 in Bilbe Study, Doctrine, Editorials, Encouragement, site news

Absolute Surrender: The Story of Jacob’s/My Life Part 2.

Genesis 29:35

She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah.

Introduction:

It is a great mystery, but a truth none the less, the doctrine of the providential working of God in the lives of His children. We believe and the bible teaches, summed up in Roman 8:28, that God causes all things to work together for the good of them that love God, and those who are the called according to His purpose. Because of our own self righteous attitude, we would at times want to interpret that verse to mean all things except personal failures, shortcomings and weaknesses. We declare in our own understanding that God can work providentially over here where if there are any negatives, they are all external. But over here, where the negatives are internal or personal, God’s providence is not active. Might I suggest that the “all” in Roman’s 8:28 means just that “all”. God is in full control of all things, and is not limited but more than able to work His purposes in all the circumstances of His child. Including the failings, shortcomings and weaknesses of His child. Read the rest of this entry →

If I Perish, I Perish.

Esther 4:16

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which [is] not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Introduction:

The Word of the Lord is so inexhaustible, that I am continually amazed as to the number of times you can look at a particular portion of the Scriptures, and be blessed by another aspect of God’s truth that you did not see before. God in His mercy, opens your spiritual eyes as it were, to allow you to see something to which hitherto you were blind. This was my experience recently, and I hope to share it with those who hear this message. Read the rest of this entry →

The Signs of The Times are Not for The Unbeliever

February 16, 2011 in Apologetics, Bilbe Study, Doctrine, Editorials, Encouragement, Events, Uncategorized

Luke 21:28

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Introduction:

Unless one has their head in the clouds or buried in the sand, you cannot help but realize that the world that we live in and the societies of which we all are a part seems to be coming apart at the seams. This is not a doom and gloom statement. This is not a matter of negativism. This is reality. Economies all over the world are not just declining, but failing. Countries in North and South America as well as Europe are doing their very best with little success to stabilize their faltering economies. Not only this but we are told of conflict and unrest of one form or another in diverse countries all over the world. Why just recently there was an uprising in Tunisia and we are told that this inspired an uprising in Egypt that has lead the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak bowing to the will of the people and stating that he would step down as president. In that same part of the world, the Middle East, there is continual conflict among the Jews and the rest of the Arab nations. There is also the threat of global terrorism. There is also the threat of nuclear war. There are conflicts in Africa, Russia, Spain, India. On and on we could go.
